Millions of people around the world are misinformed about the disability that is Down syndrome. This website will provide a clear definition and overview of what Down syndrome is, and how individuals with this syndrome are discriminated against through social media. This website will also focus on the changes that need to be made to stop social media discrimination of people with Down syndrome. What is social media? Social media is a “means of carrying or communicating information through the web”(qtd. in Wood 1). Social media pertains to areas such as, Facebook, Twitter, Youtube, and other means of communication through the Internet. This website will also demonstrate how individuals with Down syndrome are not at all different from individuals without Down syndrome, and show that there is no real reason to discriminate against them. A clear definition of discrimination would be “unfair or unfavorable treatment based on protected class” (qtd. in Weatherby-Flowers and Gombar 17). Keep in mind while reading this website the intention is not to bash those who discriminate against individuals with Down syndrome, but to inform society of the problem at hand.
